Dark Vortex Slots Data
Dark Vortex is played on a standard 5x3 board, and it uses a very interesting Win All Ways mechanics. When you land three consecutive symbols from left to right or right to left, you’ll win. This would then be the equivalent of 243 ways to win, times two, with a small exception that five-of-a-kind wins only pay left to right. Makes sense, otherwise five-of-a-kind wins would effectively be doubled. If you land a full board win, you’d actually win on 243 paylines. It’s possible to win over 7000x your bet on a single spin, and this is the main appeal of this game.
There are ten symbols in the paytable, five of them being Books that represent low value symbols, and five are various monsters that pay rather well, and all pay roughly the same so there’s no symbol that would stand out.
If you land two Vortex symbols on adjacent reels, you’ll open two Vortex Reels for 3 spins. For each additional Vortex symbol, you’ll get +2 Vortex spins. The further the Vortex expands the higher the win potential, and one Vortex symbol adjacent to Vortex Reels expands Vortex and awards +2 Vortex spins. If you open five Vortex Reels you’ll trigger free spins in which you collect Orbs. Pink Orbs extend Wild Stack size, and they appear on reels 1 and 5. Blue Orbs increase the number of free spins, and they appear on reels 2, 3 and 4.
Theoretical return to player (RTP) is 96.50% when playing the game normally, and this rises to 97.00% if you use the buy bonus feature. This is a feature in which you pay 800 coins to play a Pick & Click game in which you first pick one of five cards to determine Wild Stack size, and then pick another to determine a number of free spins.
This sounds complex, and it is, so the only way to learn to play this game is to actually go and play it.
Dark Vortex Slot Theme
While Yggdrasil are well known for their graphics, this particular title isn’t one of their best when it comes to the visual experience. The symbols are too small and too detailed, so it’s difficult to read the board, and at the same time it’s questionable if these symbols add anything to the theme - which seems to be something between fantasy, magic and retro gaming. It gets much better when you activate Vortex Reels though, the game suddenly comes to life.
